Originally, back at the beginning of this year, we were hoping to get a beta out the door by May. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we lost about 6 months of work. That said, we’re hitting the ground running and we’re now part of Smoov.

No two operating systems provide the exact same feature set. Although you can create expressive applications using only those features of the operating system available everywhere, there may be times when you want to take advantage of an OS-specific feature. For example, window menus would seem very out of place to users on Mac OS X. AIR enables you to go beyond the lowest common set of features of the supported operating systems. But, when you use platform-specific features, you should consider the best practices discussed here to make sure that you don’t accidentally limit the reach of your applications.
Project Start
Really this project started a few days ago, but I wasn’t entirely on the ball. Initially, to learn AIR, I set out to make an entirely different application. I quickly realized that I might as well make something I would use and that my friends would use too. Tumblr is different in that it is the first web app that my not-so-internet-friendly friends have adopted (second behind it would probably be Last.fm). It made blogging a reality for them without having to setup a blog, have a domain/hosting, or need to know complicated software.
What I’m getting at is, Tumblr was inspirational on so many levels. I decided on Tumblair for a name because it was easy and “smart.” If you want to call it that. There’s a domain here and hopefully I’ll have enough to slowly start releasing as development continues.

This, if you hadn't noticed yet, is the Tumblair blog, running on... you guessed it, Tumblr. On the day I set this up, I nearly created a Wordpress install on the web server, but that would have been ridiculous. The blog is run by the Smoov team.
